Posted December 13, 2013 by markdowning in AMA Entertainment

The AMA Talent search started at the tail end of October, the concept of this project came about from the noticeable rise in popularity of the artists on our emerging roster this year. The Strypes, Walking On Cars and VANN MUSIC have all made huge leaps this year becoming profile artists in the process, leaving room on our roster to add one or two of Irelands most exciting new acts . We received almost  700 entrants for the competition and we’ve narrowed it down to 10, we will be scouting these bands over the coming months and will announce the winners in March. For the moment we’d like to present the second pool of finalists for the competition below.

Marvell Mavungu is a 20 year old hip hop artist from Lucan. From a young age he took an interest in acting but quickly moved onwards once he discovered his love for music. He began writing at 16, using music as a means of escaping reality and issues of everyday life. Freestyling and constant practice has lead him to build confidence with his lyrical content and stage presence, creating a live experience that is intimate and endearing. Taking influences from the likes of J Cole, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent he’s created a sound that is unique yet accessible, this has lead to him sealing impressive support slots with Hoodie Allen and Lil Wayne.. it’s looking like a bright future for one of the pioneers of Irish based rap.

2. The Altered Hours

The Altered Hours are a psychedelic and hypnotic band, producing dreamy textures and air-y vocals that remind us of My Bloody Valentine and Tame Impala . They recently released a 10″ vinyl with legendary Brian Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe’s Berlin based label ‘A Recordings’. The release in April 2013 was followed up by a N Irish & UK tour including the Marquee,Cork, Liverpool Psych Fest, Electric Picnic.

3.  dREA

dREA is a Limerick based artist who has recently featured at Other Voices in Dingle and the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival. His music  is powerful and authentic, combining elements of pop, indie and alternative. Damien Drea is the name behind the project and based on what we’ve heard we feel like he is more than capable be playing headline slots at festivals, a huge sound from a very promising writer.

4. Meet The Blue

Meet the Blue are an indie-electronic duo from Limerick they’ve played a few big festivals in Canada namely ‘Indie week’, ‘Juno Fest’ and most recently ‘CMW’ which Rhiana headlined off the back of their E.P release. Meet The Blue recently featured as one of the winners of the ‘Budweiser Future Sounds Of Irish Music’ competition, their sound balances danceable elements with catchy hooks that is appealing for a wide variety of music lovers!

5. Rudy TrixX

RudyTrixX formed in early 2012 when five college friends got together to begin writing, performing and recording their own original music, RudyTrixX are an exciting, young, up-and-coming Irish Alt/Indie/Rock band. RudyTrixX’s musical style draws from an eclectic mix of influences, ranging from Two Door Cinema Club to Alt-J, and Plan B to Ludovico Einaudi.

With just one year under their belt they have already established themselves on the Irish music scene with performances at Electric Picnic and Body&Soul, as well as at several major venues around Ireland. The band have also been picked as Budweiser’s Future Sound of Irish Music and as Whelan’s One’s to Watch 2014.
