The AMA Talent Search: Top 5

Posted November 8, 2013 by markdowning in AMA Entertainment

Since The AMA Talent Search started 2 weeks ago, we have had over 400 submissions from all over Ireland. Every two weeks we will be selecting 5 acts that we feel deserve further attention. The search has proved to be an eye opening venture so far, as the weeks go on we hope to narrow down the search to 1 or 2 bands that will be added to our roster. Below you will find a staff selection of our top 5 most promising local acts.

1. The Boxing Plot

The Boxing Plot formed in 2009 but have only recently begun to emerge from their cave into the horrible light of day.

At the start of the year, the band were named “Phantom’s Next ICON” and were included in John Barker’s list of ones to watch in 2013. During the year, The Boxing Plot played several shows, including two headline dates in The Workman’s Club and a slot at Hard Working Class Heroes.
At the start of October, the band released the first of two singles, Geist which received airplay on a few Irish radio stations including 98FM and Phantom 105.2.

The music of Tell No Foxx is both heartfelt and mysterious, their sound holds meaningful lyrical textures that glimpse echoes of “the 80’s” infused enigmatically with modern minimalistic guitar complemented by a wide pallet of modern “hip hop” style drums. The band is currently working on their debut EP witch will be released early 2013.

2013 Highlights: Other Voices Derry 2013, Hard Working Class Heroes 2013 and the FMC Tour 2013 W/ Funeral Suits, Le Galaxy, Dathí

3. Color//Sound

Color//Sound are a 4 piece band with a fresh outlook on songwriting and arrangement. Oisin Furlong, Brendan McGlynn, Steven McCann and Ben Roe formed COLOR//SOUND in January 2012 at BIMM Dublin, school of music. The band have had a busy year having played alongside Villagers, Turn, Cathy Davey and others, securing a slot at Electric Picnic and playing venues such as The Button Factory, The Academy, Whelans and the Odessa, with one venue dubbing them “The definition of up and coming”.

4. The Klares

The Klares is made up of four lads from Dublin – aged 15 and 16. I want it keep it simple and say that these young lads just have great song writing capabilities and a sound that is beyond their years. Guitar music is most definitely on the mend and these guys have huge potential.

5. Elastic Sleep

Elastic Sleep have been a band for just over 6 months now and off the back of our debut release ‘Anywhere’ a 2 minute 12 second pop microcosm we’ve amassed airplay from 2FM, BBC6, a slot at 2013’s Hard Work Class Heroes festival from which we came away with top reviews as an act catching everyone by surprise as well as signing up with Cork independent label FIFA records.
